Officials attached to the international development assistance agency, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), have concluded an assessment tour of the Boys Training Center (BTC).
Hosted toward the end of July 2022, USAID representatives met with the Director and staff of BTC to discuss the ongoing rehabilitation and reintegration processes of BTC services and the overall needs of the Center.
Officials received a guided tour of the facility, where they learned about the use of USAID-donated equipment and its importance in enabling BTC to meaningfully engage neighborhoods in training educational, technical and professional.
BTC Director Wang Sonson welcomed visitors and took the opportunity to discuss the way forward in the context of recent advances in Saint Lucia’s national welfare system and reform project Juvenile Justice Program recently concluded by USAID/OECS, implemented in OECS countries.
“Without this level of support, BTC would have been crippled. As part of the OECS Juvenile Justice Reform Project, the provision of equipment and tools to improve the operations and administrative capacity of the Boys’ Training Center was made possible through USAID. Therefore, on behalf of the staff and wards of BTC, I would like to say thank you,” Sonson noted.
USAID considers and describes itself as the world’s premier international development agency and serves as a catalyst for driving development initiatives while demonstrating American generosity. USAID is an independent agency of the US federal government that focuses on international development and humanitarian activities. The Agency focuses on strengthening global stability, solving social problems and creating innovative solutions to meet development challenges.
