Customers can choose from five restored classic cars to rent and drive
JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – If you’ve always wanted to know what it was like to drive your father’s or grandfather’s classic car, a new company in the area offers that experience, with a “trip down memory lane “.
Clayton Klaver, a classic car lover and owner of Clay’s Classics, has a collection of vehicles from the 1950s and 1960s.
Each is considered to be in pristine condition and available to the public for hire.
Currently, Klaver’s vintage car collection includes five vehicles, with more to be added soon:
- 1959 Ford F-100
- 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang
- 1964 Buick Skylark
- 1964 Ford Galaxy 500
- Ford Mustang 1966
Klaver, an Air Force veteran, bought his very first vintage vehicle in 2009: a 1959 Ford F-100 pickup truck that took more than a decade to rebuild.
Once work on the truck was complete, Klaver decided to start a collection of classics, with the idea that people in their 40s, 50s and 60s would relive Route 66 in the most authentic way possible.
“I like people to enjoy my vehicles. If you have something that is only material, it doesn’t mean anything. So, I offer them all the time for people to rent and enjoy, especially if the weather is good. That’s when I try to get them all out and let people enjoy them for as long as they want.
Klaver said he’d rather share his cars with the public than store them in a garage to collect dust or haul them to car shows.

“When I started this business, the idea was to bring people from Europe and drive one of these bad boys, because classic cars are so expensive there, so I wanted them to come here. , take advantage of it, visit Route 66 in the Ford Galaxy 64′. It made their life; it’s just a great experience and something they never get to do. said Claver.
“There’s nothing better than taking one of these cars on the road, where you have no distractions. It’s just you, the radio, the road and the car. It’s so simple,” Klaver continued.
Her clientele so far includes honeymooners, prom goers, high schoolers (wanting a classic car in their senior portraits), couples looking for a unique “date night,” and the older generation. elderly, who once owned and drove the type of cars you’ll find in Klaver’s collection; at a time when those the vehicles were not considered “classic”.
The cost of renting one of Klaver’s classics: between $250 and $500 per day, depending on the vehicle you choose.
Klaver allows renters to travel up to 200 miles per day.
“Exceeding the 200 daily mile limit will cost you an extra $0.75 per mile. But most renters don’t exceed the 200 mile limit,” Klaver said.
The only time Klaver does do not renting his collection of classics is during the winter months and in bad weather.
“There’s a limit to how much I let my cars go (laughs).”
