Pratt & Whitney creates an India Capability Center in Bangalore

(Eds: (Amendments to Sandeep Sharma designation in paragraph 2)) Hyderabad, Mar 24 (PTI): Pratt & Whitney sets up world-class global supply chain support center – India Capability Center in Bengaluru , a senior aero-engine official said the manufacturer Thursday.

Sandeep Sharma, director, India operations, supply chain, Pratt & Whitney Canada, said the new center will initially recruit around 160 aerospace analysts and data scientists and is expected to begin operations next month.

”India Capability Center is a global supply chain office for us here in India. It will employ more than 150 operations experts, analysts and data scientists to augment Pratt & Whitney’s global supply chain by delivering digital capabilities. It’s the first of its kind for us in India,’ Sharma told a press conference on the sidelines of Wings India 2022.

This center will become a crucial contributor to developing and delivering a truly integrated advanced supply chain center for the business, he added.

In response to a question about setting up an engine MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility in India, Ashmita Sethi, President and Country Head, Pratt & Whitney, said the company is working closely with Indian government to identify MRO opportunities.

She said currently billions of dollars worth of MRO works are handled by other countries such as Singapore, the Middle East and Hong Kong, where the industry offers incentives and a modest tax structure.

“We’ve been working to identify opportunities that can be monetized here,” she said.

She said one in two passengers flying in India today flies on an aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney. Currently, the company has 1700 engines and APUs (Auxiliary Power Units) in India.

Pratt & Whitney has a customer training center in Hyderabad.
