HUBBALI: The Indian Airports Authority (AAI) has given the green light for the establishment of a Flight Training Center (FTC) in Hubballi. It will be the third FTC in the North Karnataka region after Belagavi and Kalaburagi.

Hubballi Airport is one of the oldest airports in the state. The IAA has approved the FTC in Hubbali due to minimal disruption in the region on issues such as weather, civil and military air traffic.

With the growing demand to create an FTC to train interested young people from this region in the aviation sector, five such centers were established last year as part of the liberalized policy of the training organization. in flight from the Indian Airport Authority. Given the importance of the center in the region, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia accepted Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s request to establish the FTC.

According to sources, Hubballi obtains the FTC as part of the liberalized policy of Phase 2 of the flight training organization. The tender may take around six months and by next year the agencies that won the tender will start operating out of Hubballi Airport. The tender will be awarded to two agencies and both will train aspirants.

Airport manager Pramod Thakre said the airport has adequate land and infrastructure to start the FTC. The tender may use the BOT (build, operate and transfer) model, and the awarded agencies will set up the infrastructure and operate for 10 to 15 years according to the agreement and then hand it over to the IAA .
