ZAGREB, June 30, 2021 – The construction works of a regional firefighter training center were inaugurated on Wednesday in Brčići in the Vučevica region as part of the Firespill project, which is part of the Italian-Croatian cross-border cooperation program.

The HRK 120 million project is funded by EU funds, of which 65 million are earmarked for projects in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia.

Inaugurating the work, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said the government had donated the land on which the center was being built, thus contributing to the development of this area.

He said Brčići was a good location as it was close to the operational fire command at Divulje, the main fire command in the country, and was “confident that this was another good example of the use of fire funds. the European Union”.

Plenković said the new firefighter training center is an important project for Split-Dalmatia County and for all of Croatia it will take firefighting to a new level.

He said his cabinet had stepped up the fight against the fires and that Fire Chief Slavko Tucaković managed an annual budget of HRK 450 million.
