The Government of Prince Edward Island has released the results of the June 17th PNP draw.
The province invited a total of 113 would-be immigrants under its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Most of the invitations, 101, were sent to Express Entry and Labor Impact applicants. The remaining 12 invitations were sent to Business Impact candidates who had a minimum point threshold of 60.
This is the sixth draw of the year organized by the Canadian Maritime Province. Prince Edward Island invited 905 applicants, including 816 from the Work Impact and Express Entry streams and 89 from the Business Impact stream.
PNPs allow provinces and territories in Canada to select immigrant applicants who meet their labor market needs. This is the case with Prince Edward Island, which administers the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) under guidelines approved by the federal government.
Immigration to Prince Edward Island, like elsewhere in the country, has declined over the past year, largely due to travel restrictions. However, the federal government plans to close the deficit and achieve an ambitious immigration target in 2021. Under the PNP, Canada’s goal is to admit 80,800 new immigrants this year.
PEI PNP Category Express Entry
The IEP PNP Express Entry category is an enhanced PNP, meaning it is linked to the federal government’s Express Entry system.
Express Entry manages applications for three economic class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
Eligible applicants receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for their age, work experience, education, and English or French language skills.
Express Entry applicants who receive a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 points for their CRS score and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
In order to be considered for a PEI Provincial nomination, Express Entry applicants must create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP.
EOI profiles are awarded points based on the province’s unique points grid. The highest rated applicants are then invited to apply via monthly draws.
Work impact category
The labor impact category is intended for foreign nationals who have a valid job offer in Prince Edward Island and who have the support of their employer. It is divided into three components: skilled worker, critical worker and international graduate.
Applicants in this category must also submit an Expression of Interest in order to be considered for a provincial nomination in the Impact on Work category.
Business impact category
Applicants in the Business Impact category must meet the minimum provincial score requirement in order to proceed with their applications. The score is different for each draw. The invitations that Prince Edward Island sent out for today’s draw were issued under the Work Permit Stream, aimed at foreign entrepreneurs who wish to own and operate a business on the island.
