Offaly County Council is inviting bids from contractors for the construction of a new 680m2 two-storey Fire Service Training and Development Center in Tullamore.

Funding of €900,000 has been secured under the Fire Service Capital Program 2021-2025 for the development of the center which will provide facilities not only to Offaly but also to fire services across the country.

The new fire station will be located on a vacant site adjacent to the existing Srah fire station.

Entrepreneurs applying will need to pre-qualify through a “suitability assessment” for the position.

The building will include unisex changing rooms, a personal protective equipment (PPE) storage room, a PPE drying room, a briefing room, toilets and showers, a breathing apparatus and compressor room, an office, a conference room, an instructors office, meeting rooms and a canteen.

In addition, the building will include a training tower, a vehicle storage unit and a goods store (300 m²), a vehicle maintenance workshop (140 m²) and an underground confined space training facility.

A new perimeter wall and access gate will also be constructed and a vehicle barrier will be installed. 3 meters of hedges will be removed and 19 parking spaces will be provided, one of which is accessible.

The building will be connected to the existing collector and storm sewer networks. The contractor will also have to install an underground water storage tank.

The training center will provide an extensive range of courses, including national QQI courses on firefighter skills, breathing apparatus, pump operation, transportation and hazardous materials.
It will also be used for the delivery of officer refresher courses as part of the central training program delivered nationally by the National Fire and Emergency Management Branch.
The vacant virgin land has an area of approximately 0.54 hectares.
Vehicle access to the proposed development is to be provided via the existing fire station on the R443 Srah road. Pedestrian access will be provided via Pearse Park Road and the existing access road to adjacent premises.

The deadline for submission is August 24, 2022.
